Maggie Weiss Thermofax Workshop.

Greetings All,
Sunday afternoon on April 22nd I spent a wonderful time at Maggie Weiss's studio for a workshop on thermo-faxing.  There was great food, drinks, and lots of creativity flowing and I had a grand time.

Below are the three pieces that I worked on and if the background fabrics look like you've seen them before, well you have.  I used some fabrics that I created during  play-dates with the "Sew What Art Quilters".

Left is a soy wax batik I created using kitchen utensils and children rubber stamp.  The fish is thermo-faxed and I'm not sure where I will go from here.

The fabric below center was created by me using my hand dyed cotton and Setacolor paints.  The face is a drawing that I had created long ago and that's the thermo-faxed image.

The piece to the right was created on some of Lois Jarvis "Rust-Tex" fat 8th fabric.  Again I use my thermo-faxed image and I've started to enhance the image with fabrics paint pens and will post more later.

Below is a small slide show of the group doing their thing and I hope that you enjoy it.

Piece of the Week.

Greetings All,
The Piece of the Week is not one of my own, but one of my students.  She like the piece that I had created, but I had done my tree freestyle and I had to find one for her first class.  She choose my hand dyed cotton for her sky and black Kona cotton and quilted it with variegated thread.  I think that she did a good job for her first and I'm very proud of her.  We look forward to her next project.

Piece of the Week.

Greetings All,

This is my piece of the week and the inspiration came from the photo below. I was asked last month if I could make a birthday gift for one of the associate pastors at church who's from Sierra Leona. I look at photos and love the one below with the dancing women. I don't try an focus on realism, but on gut feeling, color and texture. I had a great time making selections for the "Bundu Women on Dama Road".

Piece of the Week.

Greetings All,
The piece of the week is "Soaring @ Twilight". This is the latest in my "Blackbirds" series and you ask how many pieces are in this series? Well I'm not sure, but for now I must have them in my life. I hope that you enjoy them as much as I have in creating them.

This piece is simple in its construction because it's all about the color and the birds. I hand dyed the sky and the flowers were given to my by Clairan Ferrono who had wrapped one of my pieces in it to return to me. The flower print made me think of midnight and magnolias for some reason. I'm not sure what type of flowers they are, but I love them.

I've never seen birds fly at midnight, but I have seen them get their flight on at twilight or the Blue Hour. They are either starting or finishing their day and their silhouettes look so lovely and graceful against the skylight.
