International Textile Biennial San Jose, Costa Rica"Beyond Category: Visions of Jazz in Fiber"

Greetings All,

Here is a slide show that I created from some of the images of the lecture the Ambassadors of Fabrics (Marion Coleman, Ed Johnetta Miller, Adriene Cruz, and L'Mechie Frazier) in Limon at El Costurero as part of the Beyond Catergoy exhibit. You also see images of the opening reception at the US Embassy in San Jose, Costa Rica by clicking on US Embassy which will take you to their Face Book page. I have a couple of questions to ask and one is do all quilt shops look the same around the world? The second question being is everyone on Face Book? I would also like to say to Dr. Carolyn Mazloomi thank you for allowing us to be a part is this wonderful endover. Enjoy the slide show and the links.

Greetings All,

Am I telling my age by quoting the "Pointer Sisters" and for those that don't know them look them up. Above is a sneak pre-view of some of the postcards by Joyce Owens and Juarez Hawkins. Enjoy :-)

This is month has started off with so much art. First the International Textile Biennial San Jose, Costa Rica"Beyond Category: Visions of Jazz in Fiber" and I hear that the show has been well received. "Some Like It Hot" in Evanston, IL is a show that's a must see and I've gotten good reviews thus far. Also this month there will be the openings of "Caffeine-IV" at Murphy Hill Gallery and "Midwest Meditations" a SAQA (Studio Art Quilt Associates) group exhibit at the Bloomingdale Park District Museum in Bloomingdale, IL. There will be more to come next month which is "Chicago Artists" month and I will keep you posted.

Postcards from my edge.

Greetings All,
I have been busy doing all things not art until this week. I completed a small commission piece that I have been working (above) where I used all types of materials and had a great time exploring/learning. I embellished with beads, chain and all types of jewelry findings that where given to me by a new acquaintance/artist Sylvia Hughes. I also included some hand painted zinc washers. I used various types of fabrics as well, cotton, silks, and upholstery fabric. Some photo transfers are included. Some that were given to me by Michele Hardman and one I did myself of the patron. This piece hang on a copper rod and can be displayed from 4 different sides. I just love it.

Below are some postcards that I've created for an exhibit next month with the famed Sapphire & Crystals women art collective. I am honored and excited about this show because it includes all types of artists. So if you are in town next month come by the historic South Side Community Art Center at 3831 S. Michigan Ave. for the Sapphire & Crystals postcard exhibition:
