For The Love of The Cloth - Aprons

Greetings All,
I have had a great time this week pulling out all the aprons that I've created, some are old and some are new and they are all about the love of the cloth.  Simple, but lovely to me.  Thanks again to Liz King for stirring up good memories.

Today I completed another stole and this one has purple as the main color.  All cottons fabrics that are machine pieced and machine quilted.

All this week I have been working on clergy stoles.  This started because I shared a photo of a friend wearing one that I was commission to make for her ordination.  When I shared that photo I got other inquires and so this week has been a different walk of faith.  The two below belong to a young woman in the ELCA who I have watched grow with my own children and I am just amazed to the woman she has become.

The two below were created becasue my young friend needed to add a green stole to her liturgical wardrobe and these were a pleasure for sure to created.  This process has allowed me the opportunity to pray in a totally different manner for sure and for that I am grateful.

Mother Water-II

Greetings  All,
From time to time I have been asked to recreate a piece and sometimes it's been easy and other time not so.  I started Mother Water-II a year ago and could not get it finished until just now.  When I moved to Peoria, IL it was one of the hardest thing that I had ever done and I came with the excitement of learning how to work in an art gallery and thinking that I would have a space exhibit and to teach.  All of those dreams where shattered and I could not work.

I started this piece and it would just not flow.  I did some small pieces thinking that they would kick start my creative juices and that to did not work.  I have always been able to work through whatever I was going through, but this time it was different and I have been asking why the whole time.  What do you want me to learn from this part of my journey God?  I am still waiting for the answer.

Wearable Art

 Greetings All,
I have been busy this past week created tunics.  Some I had cut out a while back and other were just on the spur of the moment.  All are one size fits most and the lengths go from the hips to the knees.  Most of the fabrics were gifted to me by Lorain Little of Chicago Needles and Threads Quilters Guild, Juni Nelson, and Lynnde White, to whom I am very grateful.


Buzz Buzz (above) is a batik that I bought for myself and decided to share a part with humanity.

 Sun Set (above center) this ombre fabric was gifted by Loraine Little. Flash From The Past (below right) fabric is a vintage print from Juni Nelson.

Blues Blue (left) is a vintage wax print gifted by Juni Nelson and I also created a head-wrap/stole.

 Red Mask (above center) African wax print gifted by Lorraine Little.

Flux Kente (below right) gifted by Lynnde White to whom I gave her one as a gift for blessing me with the fabric.

#1 Grandson's Quilt.

My #1 grandson, my only grandson graduated from high school and will be off to college this fall, so Nana offered to create a quilt for him.  Once I asked what where is favorite colors (blue, green, and red) I chose what I had in my stash and we are all pleased with my choices.  He even said that a pillow sham would be nice and do it was done.

 

9th Triennial Garthering

I spent 3 days in Charlotte, N.C. at the 9th Triennial Gathering of the Women of the ELCA, where we created quilts for Lutheran World Relief and here is a little slide show.

Parking Lot Painted Shibori update.

 Greetings All,
Here is an update on my painted shibori process.  The piece below were done of the smaller piece of PVC.  You can see the difference in sizes from my photo below.

 I re-painted several piece on the larger piece of PVC and you can see them wrapped on the photo above and the results below.  This has bee a most enlightening experiences and I look forward to what I create with these fabrics.

This is the only piece that I batiked and I do have more in the works.

The Journal Project/SWAQ Journal

 Greetings All,
Here is an update on The Journal Project.  We I have changed one of them by re-constructing the tree (below).  I am so very pleased with this new one and several have found new homes, so they are being well received.  They make great gift ideas and the covers can be remove and framed/hung.

Below is my new series of journals named after a group of friends/artists that we use to meet and have "Play-dates" and whom I miss greatly.  All the fabrics I either dyed, over-dyed, painted, stamped, stenciled and the shadow profiles represent me looking forward to meeting up sometime again.
