P.I.E.C.E.S. an exhibition

Greetings All,
My next solo exhibit will be at Illinois Central College in East Peoria, IL.  Aug 20 - Sept 14, 2018.  Gallery talk Aug 29th from  Noon to 1p.m.  This piece "Birch Trees Again" was created with my hand dyed and painted fabrics as well as some gifted fabrics. This piece is machine pieced and machine quilted with raw-edge appliques.  Birch trees are a recurring theme in my work and trees are a mainstay.  I am forever grateful for all opportunities large and small to exhibit and a special thanks to Jessica Ott.

More lovelies from my summer ice dyeing.  This session I used Pro MX Reactive Dye over vintage tablecloths.  The colors are a bit softer than what I was hoping for, but I love them nevertheless.  Top left is Berries with Cherries, middle center Tutti-Frutti - II and bottom right Tutti-Frutti - III

Encaustic Exploration.

Last week I explore the world of encaustic for the 1st time. Encaustic painting, also known as hot wax painting, involves using heated beeswax to which colored pigments are added. The liquid or paste is then applied to a surface—usually prepared wood, though canvas and other materials are often used.  Here are some of the pieces that I created below.

I have created some new tunics from some of my ice-dyed cloth and felt a need to share.  Grape Crush (below left) is of Osnaburg cloth.   Below cent is more Osnaburg cloth ice dyed cotton with orange titled  Dream Sicle and below right is Tutti frutti multi-colored tunic of a vintage tablecloth.

Here are some of my results from my 1st ice dye of the season.  Dyed with Rit powder dyes, Pro Che dyes, and Setacolor fabric paint.  I use Osnaburg cotton and vintage tablecloths.

I've been kind of laid back for a while and focused on other things like making my tunics, dyeing fabrics, and soft sculptures. Now that it's warm in my area of the world I have been ice dyeing and loving it.  Here are a few photos of my process.  I used Rit dye in both liquid and powder forms.  I also use Pro Chem reactive dye and Setacolor fabric paint.

I have also been gifted some false indigo and I've picked and cut it and combine it and water in a jar to see if it will ferment and extract a blue dye.  I will keep you posted.
